Description
Ronia and Melissa live in Oslo with their father. Christmas is approaching, and he is unemployed once again. When Ronia, with the help of her school caretaker, helps him find a job selling Christmas trees, it seems their luck is changing. Soon the fridge is full, and their warm, loving father smells of fir trees instead of beer.
But the local pub matters more to him than his daughters’ well-being, and when he disappears into the night under the pretext of going to buy Christmas presents, Ronia and Melissa know where he is really going. So they decide to take care of themselves. And with the help of some of the people around them, a bright star, and a forest that protects them, they will dream of a brighter place, a place of kindness.
Told with masterful storytelling that evokes the innocence and unselfconscious joy of a young child, *The Road to the Stars* moves and captivates readers, and has all the makings of a magical modern classic.
