Έφτασε το καλοκαίρι! Τι θα χρειαστούμε για μια ασφαλή και χαλαρή εξόρμηση στην παραλία;

Summer has arrived! What will we need for a safe and relaxing trip to the beach?

Summer has arrived! What will we need for a safe and relaxing trip to the beach?

What is the best time to go to the beach?

The best times to go to the beach with our children are either early in the morning (until 11am) or later in the afternoon (after 5pm). If we choose to go at the beginning of the day, then we can combine our bath with enjoying a light lunch by the sea. The important thing is to avoid exposure to the sun during the midday hours, when the sun's rays are strongest.

How can we protect ourselves from the sun?

The simplest thing we have to do is to dress our children in appropriate clothes, i.e. light-colored, comfortable and cool, put on a hat and sunglasses. Also as much as we can look for shady places and protect their skin from the harmful effects of the sun through the regular use of sunscreen. If we apply enough sunscreen before we leave the house, it will be absorbed by the time it's time to go out in the sun. The sunscreen must be renewed at least every 2 hours and according to the instructions of the respective product, both on the face and on the body. A practical way to remember to renew it is to set the reminder on our mobile! In addition, let's not forget the important benefits of using a beach umbrella or a suitable beach tent.

Constant hydration and light snacks

Young and old, we all need hydration throughout the day, especially during our summer trips to the sea. A supply of ice water bottles from home is a good idea, as this will relieve us of the need to constantly search for and buy cold water at the beach. Because children tend to forget to drink water, we can help them by giving them the option of some kid's juice, but also offering the alternative of consuming fruits with a high water content, such as watermelon.* At the same time, stocking up on plenty of snacks is essential. , as the sea and the heat bring fatigue and hunger.

What equipment and accessories do we need?

One of the necessary accessories that you should have in order to enjoy swimming with your children are undoubtedly life jackets, beach armbands or life vests. It is very important to choose the appropriate type and size according to the age and weight of the child. They are able to provide optimal safety for children so that they do not feel in danger while swimming, it always keeps them at sea level, thus offering them safety, peace of mind and freedom of movement.

A cooler or beach bag is a must. The cooler bag is perhaps a more practical solution, since it is easier to transport and we can fill it making the most of its space. Mesh bags are another great suggestion. They are durable and light, do not retain moisture as they allow their contents to aerate and do not retain sand. We can carry everything in them, from towels and changes of clothes, toys for the sea or a potty for the little ones, to wet bathing suits.

As for towels, we recommend the use of peshtemal cotton towels, which take up much less space than classic beach towels, are very light, highly absorbent and dry quickly, characteristics that make them the perfect travel companion. Alternatively, extremely soft microfiber towels can be used . It would be good not to miss a change of clothes for our little friends, for immediately after the bath but also because they may be needed at any time.

A potty can also prove to be a lifesaver for children who are going through the transitional phase before taking off their diapers, as well as for slightly older children, so that we don't have to worry about any unexpected situations and also in case we don't find neat toilets.

A few toys that we will selectively take with us, such as a bucket and a shovel, are enough. We don't need to burden ourselves with many things, after all, children are very active and are expected to run more than to sit in one place.

Last but not least…

Remember to pack baby wipes, also some basic first aid items such as adhesive bandages, antiseptic liquid or antiseptic wipes and some preparation suitable for skin care after bites. And when it comes to removing sand from the feet, what could be easier than using a natural powder without talc!

Happy summer and happy holidays!
